 THE PROJECT

COUNTLESS COMMUNITIES WILL BE AFFECTED AND POSITIVELY INFLUENCED WHEN ENGLISH EDUCATION IS INTEGRATED

THE PROJECT

Who are we?

Supérate is an Enactus team at John Brown University, located in Northwestern Arkansas. One of our own team members is a native of Guatemala, where we plan on building an affordable English school for children ages 12-16 to improve life quality of the people there. Our team is made up of 12 passionate JBU students, and we are currently working on raising funds for start up costs and awareness of this organization. Research shows us that English proficiency is positively correlated with rising national income levels. By providing Guatemalans with affordable English, we are empowering them to obtain better jobs, feed their families, and impact communities surrounding and the country as a whole.

THE HARD TRUTH

50%<

Of the population in Guatemala is below the national poverty line

60%

Of Children in Guatemala under 5 are malnourished

What our school will look like:

Our plan is to begin a pilot project by June 2016. This way we will see how the community responds to the education and navigate stronger ways to effectively help the community. By January 2017, groundbreaking will take place to start building the actual school itself. Students will attend by sponsorship from people willing to pour into a childs future. Once the school is running and sustainable, the JBU team will slowly give more and more responsibility to the natives working with us, and the leadership within the community will be in charge of running the school from that point on.
